Michael Sanders

Michael Sanders is a Grant Staff Attorney for the Innocence Inquiry Commission where he investigates cases with a DNA component.

Michael graduated from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill in 2016 with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, minor in classical humanities. After graduation he earned a Paralegal Technology associate in applied science degree at Southwestern Community College in 2017. He then moved to Baton Rouge, LA where he graduated from the LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center in 2021 with his law degree along with a degree in comparative law. During law school, Michael interned for the Louisiana Parole Project.

Prior to joining the Commission, Michael worked as a Staff Attorney for Legal Aid of North Carolina within the General Division and Second Chance Project, representing low-income North Carolinians to ensure they had equal access to justice and to remove legal barriers to housing, healthcare, and employment. Michael joined the Commission in 2023.

Michael is licensed to practice law in North Carolina.
