Commissioner: John Boswell

Zoe Empowers is an international charity that focuses on empowering orphans and vulnerable children in sub Saharan Africa and India. John manages the US operations that fund the international operations. Currently Zoe Empowers is partnering with over 58,000 orphaned and vulnerable children in their three-year journey out of poverty to a sustainable life.

Before Zoe Empowers, John was the Executive Vice President, Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary for SAS Institute where he oversaw legal services and contract administration worldwide for SAS. In that role he led a group of over 96 attorneys and 300 staff members globally. He was also responsible for the Government Affairs, Enterprise Negotiation and Risk departments at SAS. As part of SAS’ executive management team, John helped set policy for the company generally and took the lead role in setting SAS’ positions on privacy and intellectual property.

Before joining SAS, John was President of Vista Development Corp. and served as General Counsel and Secretary for Raima Corp. Prior to that, John practiced criminal law.

John holds a law degree and a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from the University of South Carolina at Columbia. John is married with three sons and enjoys flying airplanes and playing Ultimate Frisbee.
