State v. Edward Charles McInnis
Edward McInnis’ case was being investigated by the Commission. The Commission conducted investigation, testing and located evidence in the case. Upon learning that the DNA results excluded Edwards McInnis from the crime, the District Attorney, Kristy Newton filed a Motion for Appropriate Relief requesting a dismissal of all charges against Mr. McInnis. On August 2, 2015, the Honorable Tanya Wallace entered an order concluding that this evidence had a bearing on innocence and releasing Mr. McInnis. District Attorney Newton then entered a dismissal of all charges stating the defendant had been exonerated by DNA. Mr. McInnis was represented by Jonathan McInnis (no relation).
